Lexus LF-NX Concept (2013)

Lexus LF-NX Concept

With the launch of the first RX in 1998, Lexus pioneered the premium crossover segment, combining, for the first time, all the flexibility, practicality and durability of a Sports Utility Vehicle with the handling, performance, refinement and ride of a premium sedan.

More compact than the RX at 4,640 mm long with a 2,700 mm wheelbase length, the Lexus LF-NX concept focuses on the growing segment of smaller, more urban-centric mid-sized premium crossovers, attracting a new, more design-oriented generation of discerning Lexus customers.

Exterior Design

The Lexus LF-NX concept's bold, striking and innovative exterior reflects a further evolution of Lexus' L-finesse design language, bringing more distinctive, angular and sculpted styling to the premium mid-sized crossover segment for the first time.

The front of the new concept is dominated by an imposing interpretation of the Lexus spindle grille. Both the chrome trim and grille mesh pattern increase in size as the grille widens through the lower bumper area, to accentuate the concept's wide front track and powerful stance.

The upper edges of the grille generate powerful lines which define the bonnet edges, whilst the base is underscored by a chrome-finished undertray which expresses the crossover concept's off-road credentials.

Extremely expressive, signature front lighting features three diamond-shaped LED headlamps and the independent Daytime Running Lights (DRL) first seen on the new IS sedan. The DRLs are underscored by full-length LED strip turn signal lamps.

Lexus LX 570

Sporting a new Lexus spindle grille, new 20-inch alloy wheel design and upgraded interior for the 2013 model year, the eight-passenger Lexus LX 570 continues to deliver on challenging off-road adventures as well as luxurious daily driving.

The 2013 Lexus LX 570 gets a new look at both the front and rear. New LED daytime running lights complement new headlamp design and new larger fog lamp bezels. Turn signals have been added to the side mirrors, and wider bodyside moldings sport a new look.

The spacious, eight-passenger cabin of the Lexus LX 570 receives a number of upgrades and changes. The driver's seat gets a new Easy Access system, which makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier. The steering wheel and driver's seat automatically retract when the ignition is turned off. Lexus RX 350 (2013)

Lexus RX 350

The new, upgraded Lexus RX model range made its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The new RX exterior features a new, more elegant and aggressive frontal design. An enhanced interior offers an expanded choice of colour schemes, new trim finishes, a new steering wheel, a revised instrument binnacle and a second generation Remote Touch Interface (RTI).

The versatility of the European flagship RX 450h's Lexus Hybrid Drive system has been enhanced by the addition of a Sport mode, supplementing the full hybrid powertrain's Normal, Eco and EV (electric only) drive modes. The EV mode can now be activated with a separate switch.

Further enhancing the dynamic and sporting character of the new RX and designed to attract new customers to the model range, a new F SPORT version will be available. Expected to account for some 30% of future model range sales, the new F SPORT grade features bespoke exterior and interior design and driving dynamics technology.

With the launch of the first RX in 1998, Lexus created the Luxury SUV segment, combining, for the first time, all the flexibility, practicality and durability of a Sports Utility Vehicle with the handling, performance, refinement and ride of a luxury sedan.

The RX was the first ever SUV to be equipped with a full hybrid powertrain in 2005. Today, after three generations, two of which have been equipped with Lexus Hybrid Drive technology, the RX remains a key model for Lexus.

In Europe, the premium SUV is responsible for 32% of all Lexus sales, and is the second best selling Lexus after the CT 200h.

Lexus RX 350 F Sport (2013)

Lexus RX 350 F Sport

Making its North American debut at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, Lexus revealed the all-new 2013 RX 350 F Sport.

Available in All-Wheel Drive (AWD), the Lexus RX 350 F Sport features an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, F Sport-tuned suspension, unique sport front bumper and mesh grille, 19-inch split five-spoke wheels in a Dark Graphite finish, and exclusive interior enhancements.

"The RX 350 F Sport challenges pre-conceived notions about luxury crossover utility vehicles," said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "RX F Sport is not just an appearance package, but a full-fledged performance package."

Engine/Transmission/Drivetrain/Performance

The Lexus RX 350 F Sport teams a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an eight-speed Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) for an output of 270 horsepower at 6,200 rpm. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) is used to control both intake and exhaust camshafts independently; optimizing engine performance at many speeds and loads.

The Lexus RX 350 F Sport's eight-speed automatic transmission has paddle shifters as standard equipment. It yields quick shifting response with help from miniature high-flow linear solenoids that allow more precise clutch operation. The torque converter uses a low-speed lockup damper to enable lock-up from first to eighth gear to help improve the fuel economy.

The RX 350 F Sport model features an electronically controlled Active Torque Control AWD system. Active Torque Control AWD uses an electronically controlled coupling ahead of the rear differential to vary torque distribution anywhere from 100:0 to 50:50 front to rear, depending on driving dynamics and road conditions. When accelerating, or starting off on a low-grip surface, torque is quickly provided to all four wheels. At steady speeds, torque is sent only to the front wheels, enhancing fuel efficiency. The model is expected to earn EPA ratings of 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, 21 mpg combined.

Lexus RX 450h (2013)

Lexus RX 450h F Sport (2013)

Lexus RX 450h F Sport

The Lexus RX 450h introduced the second generation Lexus Hybrid Drive technology, and is the third generation of the original luxury SUV.

Lexus has drawn on more than a decade of experience in full hybrid powertrain technology to bring about improvements in every aspect of the vehicle's Lexus Hybrid Drive system.

As a result, the Lexus RX 450h's real-world efficiency has been significantly improved, with a 10 per cent increase in engine power, a 28 per cent reduction in combined cycle fuel consumption, a 30 per cent improvement in cold weather fuel efficiency and an unparalleled reduction in CO2 emissions.

The model underwent its first significant revisions, the changes led by a redesign of the front end that incorporates the new trademark Lexus spindle-shaped grille arrangement. Equipment specifications were improved across the board and a new F Sport version was added to the range - the first time the RX has been offered in Lexus's sport-themed trim.

As well as sporty styling elements for the exterior and the cabin, the F Sport is equipped with a lateral damper system for sharper handling and a better ride.

Lexus Hybrid Drive

Unlike mild hybrids, which use supplementary electric motor power simply to boost the performance of the petrol engine, the RX 450h is a full hybrid, capable of operation in both petrol and electric modes alone, or in a combination of both. It combines the fuel efficiency and reduced emissions benefits of a series hybrid with the acceleration benefits of a parallel hybrid.
