NanoFlowcell Quant e-Sportlimousine Concept

Elegant, sporty and with an extraordinary design that underscores the special character of this car as the platform for a revolutionary new powertrain technology - this is the Quant e-Sportlimousine, which made its world premiere at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The initial ideas for the Quant were born in 2003 in sketches by the La Vecchia brothers for a pioneering automobile, a revolutionary car for the future. Its revolutionary character was reflected in its unusual design right from the start. A first model was built in cooperation with a Swedish auto manufacturer in 2009 and presented at the Geneva Motor Show as the NLV Quant. This also served as the basis for the NLV Quant concept car that was presented in Geneva in 2010.

New powertrain and complete redesign

Following the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, it was decided to pursue a completely new concept, both optically and technically. Every element of the Quant e-Sportlimousine has been developed from the ground up over the last four years: new powertrain, complete redesign, and most importantly, every aspect of the new prototypes are designed with homologation requirements in mind. The new Quant e-Sportlimousine is neither a show car, nor a concept car, it is the first automobile equipped with nanoFlowcell®.

The extraordinary exterior of the new Quant e-Sportlimousine

The flowing, sensual design of the exterior wins you over with its long, harmonious lines. The roof line runs from the windscreen almost the entire length of the car to the wing-like, sculptured rear end. The goal was to give the car as much feeling of motion as possible to reflect the nanoFlowcell® at the heart of the Quant e-Sportlimousine, as well to underscore the sporty, dynamic expression of what an e-sports-car should be.

The four-seater e-sports sedan with nanoFlowcell® drive technology is a further development of the Quant E from 2014, the first automobile with flow cell drive to be approved by the German TÜV technical inspection authority. The new Quant F has been completely re-engineered and re-designed. With its new 2-speed automatic transmission nanoFlowcell AG has developed a new drive system, the likes of which has not existed to date. This 2-speed transmission was developed in-house specifically for impressive Quant performance with nanoFlowcell®. A top speed of over 300 km/h in all-electric mode with nanoFlowcell® drive technology and zero harmful emissions round off the exceptional performance attributes of the new Quant F.

"The Quant F is a complete re-design of its predecessor, the Quant E, and stands apart not only in terms of appearance with its red colour but also as a result of the integration of newly developed technical components.We have achieved a further improvement in performance figures with the nanoFlowcell®. With the Quant F we are currently able to attain peak output of 1090 PS/801.69 kW for a limited duration and a maximum rated voltage of 735 V (previously 600 V). This represents a massive increase for an electric vehicle. In this connection, I would expressly like to point out that we researchers are not interested here in pumping up PS/kW figures, but rather in realising what is technically feasible. For both technical and economic reasons, the rated voltage for normal operation of the Quant F will stand at approximately 400 V in future. This enables efficient and economical driving and means correspondingly greater ranges accompanied by outstanding performance with zero harmful emissions," explains Chief Technical Officer Nunzio La Vecchia.

"With the Quantino we present the smaller brother of the Quant E and the Quant F in Geneva. An innovative electric vehicle with mass appeal. Sporty, dynamic, and above all with a low-voltage drive system. With a rated voltage of only 48 V we achieve four times 25 kW, corresponding to around 136 hp, through a combination of nanoFlowcell®, buffer system and electric motors. This set-up provides us with a top speed of over 200 kilometres an hour in all-electric mode and a range of over 1,000 kilometres, without any harmful emissions," points out Nunzio La Vecchia, Chief Technical Officer at nanoFlowcell AG, regarding the latest model from the Quant family.

"The Quantino is an electric vehicle for everyone. Affordable and featuring an extravagant, unique design. It is not just a concept vehicle - it will become reality in the course of 2015. The innovative drive concept comprising low-voltage system and nanoFlowcell® provides the Quantino with a range of over 1,000 km. "Low-voltage systems are an ideal match for the nanoFlowcell®. They enable us to generate levels of drive power that previously appeared impossible. And we are only at the beginning of our development work. The initial tests and simulations already indicate far greater potential. This concept represents a real alternative for the electric mobility of the future, with outstanding drive power and vast ranges," says La Vecchia.
